Mox Jasper

A zero-mana jewel that only sings if you’ve brought a Dragon to the gallery—and a serialized Frazier frame that sings louder still.

Photo: forthcoming
Serialized #419 / base #246 — photography forthcoming

Every few years Magic mints a new Mox and the hobby collectively forgets how to breathe. Mox Jasper, from Tarkir: Dragonstorm, is not Black Lotus’s cousin who got into crypto; it is a conditional gem—{0}, tap for any color, only if you control a Dragon. That restriction is the joke and the thesis. Dragon players get a status stone. Everyone else gets a pretty paperweight until the hatchlings arrive.

On the collectability timeline, Jasper is Tarkir: Dragonstorm’s headliner: the card Wizards put on the pedestal with a serialized retro-frame double-rainbow foil illustrated by Dan Frazier—the same hand that taught a generation what a Mox looks like. English only; found in Collector Boosters of any language; pull under 1%; secondary market commonly /500. The base Belledin mythic and the DZO showcase are the playable / display siblings. The Frazier serial is the exhibit loan that never comes back.

Why it matters: Mox lineage + Dragonstorm aesthetics + Frazier retro frame is a three-strand braid collectors understand instantly. Add reported English print QC noise (color shifts, bubbles on some copies) and condition ceases to be a nicety—it becomes part of the dossier. Not every /500 is created equal; some arrive already arguing with the light table.

Gotchas

  • Not an unrestricted Mox. No Dragon, no mana. Do not file beside Mox Diamond / Chrome Mox without a footnote.
  • Condition matters. Teammate notes / market chatter: some English TDM copies show QC complaints (color issues, bubbles). Inspect under raking light before slabbing or long-term sleeve storage.
