The First Chapter: Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor (115/204)

The retail Legendary — same tailor, different drawer

Sanitized PSA 10 slab of The First Chapter Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor (115/204); certification number and barcodes redacted
PSA Gem Mint 10 · The First Chapter retail Legendary 115/204 · identifiers redacted for publish

It is easy, in a well-lit archive, to mistake every Mickey for the same Mickey. Resist that. The scissors are familiar. The Nicholas Kole face is familiar. The Ruby ink, the theatrical 8-cost swagger, the greedy 4 lore, and the Evasive clause that refuses casual challenges — all familiar. What is not interchangeable is the stamp archaeology.

This case file is for The First Chapter retail printing: Legendary collector number 115/204. Pack product. Local game stores and later mass retail. The tailor who arrived after Anaheim handed out freebies and alongside the set the hobby had been waiting to open.

Not the D23 Expo freebie (1/P1, D23 Expo mark, “1st” seal). Not a convention souvenir wearing Legendary clothing. Not a later Collection / extended-art cousin trying to borrow Expo prestige. This is the set’s own Legendary — the one the carousel keeps filing as PSA 10 First Chapter specimens, plural, because once the game hit shelves, Mickey with scissors became a repeatable pull rather than a booth ration.

If the Expo card is specimen zero for public hands, 115/204 is what happens when the laboratory notebook becomes a catalog entry.

How it got into collections

Distribution was the ordinary miracle of a set release:

  • Available in The First Chapter product after August 18, 2023 (LGS / organized launch window), with broader retail following
  • Legendary rarity within the 204-card English set
  • Non-foil and cold foil finishes exist in-set — foil is a retail variant here, not a D23 portfolio tell
  • No booth pin, no daily Expo allotment, no “1st” seal as a diagnostic requirement

Provenance, in other words, is pack history rather than weekend history. Still carefully kept. Just a different fossil bed.

Present — “When defeat looms and victory hangs by a thread, a hero bolts to the rescue, patching things up through shear determination.” (Yes. Shear. The pun survived the journey from Expo floor to booster pack. Science is grateful.)

Archive note: Multiple PSA 10 First Chapter retail copies appear in the collection carousel. Hero photograph uses a sanitized PSA Gem Mint 10 slab front (identifiers redacted). Do not substitute D23 Expo slabs.

AbilityEvasive (Only characters with Evasive can challenge this character.)

An 8-cost Legendary that quests like it has a sewing appointment with destiny. Evasive remains the scientific justification for the swagger: lesser challengers need not apply.

Retail vs. Expo twin (diagnostic traits)

Same character version. Same Kole art family. Same core rules text and shear-determination flavor. Different museum tags.

Authentication checklist (loupe optional, honesty required):

  • Collector number 115/204
  • Legendary rarity mark (not a D23 Expo logo; not a “1st” seal)
  • No D23 Expo stamp
  • No “1st” edition stamp
  • Nicholas Kole credit / Brave Little Tailor version
  • Ruby · Dreamborn · Hero · 8 · 5/5/4 · Evasive
  • Flavor text present (shear determination)
  • Finish may be non-foil or cold foil — both are valid retail; foil alone does not make it Expo

Miss the Expo stamps on purpose and you may still have a perfectly respectable — and correctly identified — Legendary. Find D23 / “1st” marks and you have wandered into a different case file. Confusing the two is the classic wrong-drawer error: real cardboard, wrong Mickey for the label.

A preservationist’s first question is therefore not “is this Mickey graded?” It is: is this the retail Legendary, or the Expo freebie? The archive keeps both. The drawers stay labeled.

Timeline context

  • D23 Expo 2022 — Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor (1/P1): announcement-era free promo + pin. The whisper. (Case file)
  • D23 Expo 2022 — Collector’s Set: six foiled stamped companions, paid portfolio, same weekend. Related bed, different acquisition. (Set page)
  • Gen Con 2023 — Mickey Mouse – Musketeer (11/P1): launch-weekend promo for The First Chapter. The bang — later on the calendar than Expo, earlier than wide shelves for many collectors. (Case file)
  • Retail — Mickey Mouse – Brave Little Tailor Legendary 115/204: this file. Same tailor after wide release. Still Mickey. Not Expo Mickey.
